Blue Ocean affiliate Axxella, LLC. recently acquired the Spire Institute & Academy in Geneva, OH and plans to expand Spire’s programming and its industry leading expertise in sports training and development to Baltimore, MD. The Ohio company will open its first Maryland location at Blue Ocean’s Aviation Station and will operate as “Spire East.”

Spire Institute & Academy is a mega-sports complex specializing in long-term training and education programming for student athletes in multiple sports. The superb indoor training and competition facilities will make Spire East unique within the track and field arena, featuring 3 large turf fields, a warm-up area, and eight volleyball/tennis courts. Spire East also will also provide multiple Pickle Ball courts, concessions, a Pro Shop, sizable locker rooms, meeting space, as well as a climbing wall area.

Bringing the Spire brand to Aviation Station at Middle River will offer unparalleled opportunities for the community. President and CEO of Blue Ocean, Jonathan Ehrenfeld states, “This is yet another great leap in our plans to provide Eastern Baltimore even more opportunity. This historic location in Baltimore is the perfect home for such an amazing sports and educational program, and we look forward to welcoming students from all over the country as they hone their skills in our fantastic community.”

Blue Ocean previously announced its acquisition of the Middle River Depot, located in Eastern Baltimore County, Maryland. The facility, now named Aviation Station, plans to house industrial users, manufacturers, and fabricators on site, along with retail, office, sports, and recreation-oriented tenants. With the Spire Institute & Academy helming the sports and recreation offerings at Spire East at Aviation Station, all aspects of athletics, academics, events, recreation, and superb facilities will offer this region an amazing resource for exceptional sports programming. Additionally, the Spire Institute & Academy is proud to have recently named Olympic champion Ryan Lochte as the facility’s International Swim Ambassador.

In previous news, it was announced that Coppermine Sports would be the provider of sports-related programming at Aviation Station at Middle River Depot. With the recent acquisition of Spire however, Blue Ocean saw an opportunity to make a more significant impact to the project by bringing Spire and elevating the sports programming experience.
