Blue Ocean was honored to recently partner with TurnAround, Inc. to support their work in empowering survivors of sexual exploitation and sexual violence/abuse within the Baltimore metro area to rebuild their lives and create meaningful opportunities for the future. As residents of Baltimore, we have a firsthand appreciation for what makes our city so wonderful and we feel great giving back to an organization that does so much in and around our community.

The mission of TurnAround is to build a community free of violence by working with adults and children affected by intimate partner and sexual violence. When the agency opened their doors in 1978, they primarily served as a trauma therapy agency. Other programs such as crisis response (emergency shelter and helpline), advocacy, and case management were later added as staff recognized the complexity of working with trauma victims. In January 1995, the agency took over SARC in Baltimore City to expand counseling and support services to survivors. And, in 2011, a new trafficking program was added to their growing list of services. Now, they serve thousands in our community through therapy and advocacy efforts, and nearly ten thousand participants are reached through their community education program each year.

Blue Ocean team members were invited to attend TurnAround’s annual fundraiser “Sip. Savor. Support” at The Shops at Kenilworth in Towson, MD on Sunday, September 30th. It was a lovely evening of sipping fine wine from local wineries, drinking craft beer, and savoring delicious food from Baltimore’s best restaurants – all while celebrating TurnAround’s work with survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence and sex trafficking.

Additionally, Blue Ocean made a generous donation to TurnAround to support the great work they are doing for the Baltimore community. We couldn’t be more grateful to support such an incredible local organization. Here’s to yet another successful “giving back” day for our Blue Ocean team!
